Since February 10, 2004, the municipality issued
a notice of preventive boiling of drinking water
following the recommendations of the Ministry
of Environment and the Ministry of Public Health.
This notice remains in force.
The most recent water tests done by the Ministry
of Environment have detected that the equipment
for the treatment of water from the Municipality
of the Village of Ayer's Cliff aqueduct could
not guarantee 100 % decontamination of the water,
if needed. However, the regular water tests done
by the Municipality did not detect the presence
of contamination in the drinking water distributed
on the territory. Since the municipal equipment
can not guarantee a complete decontamination of
the water, if needed, the representatives of the
Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Public
Health recommend to the Municipality to issue
a notice of preventive boiling of drinking water.
The contamination of the water means that it
may contain micro-organisms that could be harmful
to your health. Young children, the elderly and
people with weakened immune systems are particularly
at risk.
What should you do ?
If you use tap water
you have to boil it for at least one minute;
or use commercially bottled water.
Schools, businesses, and institutions : advise
your clients and beneficiaries that the water
could be unfit for consumption; you must post
this information wherever water is available.
You must provide them with a source of clean drinking
water.
Please take note that the municipality continues
the required procedures to find and to connect
to a new supplying source of tap water.
We are sorry for the unpleasant consequences
that this recommendation brings to you but we
have to respect the law.
